About Moonlight Gardens

Moonlight Gardens, owned and operated by Charlene Kaus, is in full swing of earning its spring beauty! Moonlight Gardens is embarking on its 30th season of being one of Colby's local, seasonal greenhouses. Just a little 3 mile scenic drive north of town seems to raise the excitement of little kids anxious to see all the animals and mothers antsy to get their yards full of color!

Moonlight Gardens is open from early April to mid June. Since opening its doors in 1991, the business has seen many changes. For 5 years the greenhouse not only provided customers with bedding plants, trees, shrubs and roses in the spring, but also was the growing place for hot-house tomatoes in the winter month that were sold to the local grocery store.

In 2011 the decision was made to upgrade the structure to a more customer friendly place, as well as increase growing space. The original 30'x100' hoop greenhouse was replaced with two 30'x96' sidewall houses that included a store. And in 2012 another 30'x72' house was added.

With its increased space, there have also been changes that Charlene has had to make. Moonlight Gardens has increased the specialty products that are available to its customers. Garden giftware and pottery have quickly become a "must buy" for any gardener; as well as fertilizer, soil, and flower care items. The biggest change for the business has been hiring employees. For 20 years, Ron and Charlene relied on their 5 kids for the extra help in preparing for the upcoming season. With their kids making their own paths through life, the Kaus' have been forced to hire extra hands in making each season the best for its customers. They look forward to another wonderful season and all of the new flowers and giftware that will soon be filling their benches!
